Machine – Friday 16th November
Machine is being pulled back to a Friday as a once off for this party. Rolling forward with the next instalment in our bi-monthly cycle: Machine no. 6 for the year. This one pays homage to some of the best born and bred local talent from our ever increasing and deepening pool. The main room plays host to 5 dj’s traversing the many aspects of the techno sound delivered over state of the art Funktion One audio technology and laced with three way live video projection feast courtesy of VDMO.
We bring you:
Adrian Bell, bringing the best of the Bunker techno/take-no prisoners approach. We love his clean lines and effortless style. Big room techno with taste and style is what we’ve come to expect of Adrian and he’s never let us down.
D-REX is known for his mastering and monitoring skill, his production standards and modular flavoured releases. Now we’re issuing in the dj styles of D-Rex. We couldn’t fault his relentless, layered approach to the mix and we’re offering him up as a dish best served hot.
Ranjit Nijjer: It’s been too long, which translates to the long awaited return. Director of Melbourne techno Institution Technoir, which itself has gone from strength to strength and now flies the flag in it’s 12th year. Ranjit is the standard bearer and lays down hefty cuts, slicing through layers of 4 deck wonderment. Ranjit is a gentleman and a deeply considered sound theorist. He gets inside the music and somehow unpacks it; you can hear this in his mix as a dj and in his production as an artist.
Machine directors and residents Andrew Tilll and Simon Slieker round out the downstairs quintet. You know you’re up for quality with these two statesmen of the techno in Australia. You can hear it in Machine Label, you can hear it in Machine, you can hear it in their decades of history permeating the sound and style of what they do.
Upstairs we’re rapt to be hosting an entirely new domain lead by Freya and Mish’chief. These two take techno out of stasis and into unbridled roll up your sleeves, let’s get down and grind it out good times. Expect plenty of smiles, plenty of energy, and an atmosphere thick and bass heavy.
Mish’chief: We’ve wanted to get Mish in for ages. We’re a fan of her Instinct events where there is an absolute dedication to that sense of New York underground. Big and deep tribal tunes rumbling through the night; enough to get lost and swept away. Her style is staunch, tough and beautiful all at once. Her craft has been well honed over time, with tight mixes and skilful composition at the fore of what she does.
FREYA Is another adept at holding dancefloors in the palm of her hand. She rolls out big tunes and crosses boundaries between genres in such a way as to pied piper the crowd down her merry way. Not that things don’t get dark in the world of Freya; dark and stormy, with mist and foam rising off the waves as they crash into shoals of despair at dance floors edge. Life vests will be provided.
MACHINE is a techno club with the vibe of an arts precinct. Run by electronic music veterans Andrew Till and Simon Slieker, the club attracts quality artists from around the country and the world. Spread over two levels each with topflight Function One sound systems and an enormous open garden area, there is always differentiation between cold and hot, hard and soft, dark and light, dry and wet, distinct and indistinct; Machine exists in this duality and celebrates the diversity it affords: old and young, queer and not, gendered and not, clear and murky. We invite you into the mix for the nighttime adventures to come.
